Abstract
A film from thermoplastic material eg. polyolefine or PVC as covering layer for absorbent layers of an article has embossments with openings arranged at their ends. The embossments are formed in such a way that their side walls 2 extend at approximately right angles to the base surface 1. As a result the embossments form capillaries with a cross-section 5 which does not change over the entire depth of the embossments. The side walls 2 of the embossments may have at their open ends a bead 3. The embossments and the openings can have any shape. Preferred are slit-shaped embossments having dimensions of 0.3 x 2 mm, which have been arranged in rows, staggered and in alternating direction. <IMAGE>
