Abstract

A user interface for a device (e.g. a TV set top box), the device with a display or networked to a device with the display includes a tracking system capable of locating a predetermined part of the user (e.g. a users face or eye 2). An object tracking system locates an object (e.g. a user's hand 3) in space when the object is pointing at the display. A cursor's position 5 is calculated from the face tracking system and the object tracking system. The cursor is displayed on a graphical user interface and used to control the graphical user interface. The GUI control unit 700 is designed to initialise when the object points of their predetermined start region and wherein GUI control in response to the cursor passing over an element 9 of the GUI. When a user moves the cursor onto a display element 9 (widget) a confirmation region may appear beside it.
