Abstract

A method and a device for jointly transmitting telephone and video signals on digital telephone lines, wherein before transmission the octets of bits which are not utilized for any call in a frame sequence of PCM signals corresponding to a plurality of telephone calls are identified (RI), the bits of a video transmission signal are temporaneously memorized (B1) and then inserted into the non-utilized octets; and after transmission, the octets of bits relating to telephone calls and octets relating to at least one video transmission signal, are separated (RR) and the bits of the octets relating to the video transmission signal temporaneously memorized (B2) so as to reconstruct the continuity of the video transmission signal. The transmission of video signals may be accomplished over a single or a plurality of telephone lines. <IMAGE>
