Cow-milkers.-Relates to the teat cups of pneumatic milking-machines of the type in which suction and air are alternately applied to the cup in direct contact with the teat and create pulsations without the employment of two separate chambers. According to the invention, a vertically reciprocating sleeve is employed to apply pressure to the teat when the cup is exhausted. In one form, Fig. 1, the sleeve B is connected to the casing A by a collapsible rubber spring 4, and the pulsations are applied to the nipple 2, being communicated by grooves 12 and apertures 13 to the space 10, so that the sleeve is drawn up to press on the teat by the contraction of the rubber casing 4. The teat is enclosed in a sheath 7 of rubber which may be reinforced with canvas, whalebone, springs, &c. In a modification, Fig. 4, the casing A is elongated, and the sleeve B fitted with a piston 15, upon the upper surface of which the pulsations act, the lower surface being under atmospheric pressure. A spring 14 returns the sleeve B to its lower position, the collar 5 being adjustable. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the pulsations are applied to the casing A of a set of teat cups by the pipe P, and the nipples of the sleeves B are connected to a receiver 27 by pipes 22, 26. A non-return valve 25, placed in the pipe 26 or in each of the pipes 22, prevents entry of air when suction is applied in the cups. The pipe 26 is supported at a variable height by a ring 29 hinged in the mouth 28 of the vessel 27. Flat springs may be fitted to the upper end of the sleeve B, either lying with it or extending beyond it to press on the teat. In the latter case, a roller may be provided at the end of each spring.
