Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement and construction of; cars; propelling; steering. -An aerial machine comprises an open-work car 1 with a flat or arched plane pivoted about a transverse axis over the car and adapted to act as an elevator. The plane is longer in the direction of flight and is constructed of side bara 13 and cross arches 14 covered with dovetailed strips of wood 12 or with canvas &c. The angle of the plane is controlled through cables 21, 22 oppositely wound around a transverse spindle 20, which is rotated from a wheel 16. A toothed wheel 28 fixed to the wheel 16 is locked by a dog 27, which can be released by a pedal 29 when the plane is to be adjusted in angle. A motor 5 is carried on a bed below the floor of the car and drives the pro. peller 37 through chain- and-sprccket gearing. A rudder 30 operated by band or foot through cables 31 is provided. Land-wheels 11 or floats may be fitted.
