Abstract
26,704. Credenda Conduits Co., and Summerhayes, V. Nov. 20. Resistances for heating. A wire 7 or the like is wound around a support consisting of insulating-material attached to a trough 1 of metal such as copper, nickel, or nickel-faced steel, preferably polished to reflect heat. The sides of the trough may be parallel or divergent as shown. Grooves for holding strips 4 of mica, steatite, uralite, &c. are formed either by doubly bending the sides of the trough or by clamping together two troughs, one within the other. In some cases, the insulating-strips 4 are secured by pinching together the walls of the grooves. Means may be provided for adjusting the strips so as to take up " slack " in the wire. To the bottom of the trough is clamped, preferably by terminal screws, either a broad strip 6 of insulating-material or a reversed trough similar to the first. The resistance wire 7 may be flat or round, and is preferably crimped; it may enter notches in the edges of the insulating-strips. The troughs are provided near their ends with holes, preferably elongated, for attachment to a radiator, grill, toaster, oven, &c.
