Abstract

6984. Smith, M., and Taylor, Garnett, Evans & Co. March 22. Bronzing. - Relates to flat-bed machines in which a travelling belt conveys cards, sheets, &c. beneath bronze-applying, brushing, rubbing, and polishing devices, and consists in providing the belt with grippers constructed of thin spring plates attached at their leading edge to the inner surfaces of the belt and so shaped as to extend through apertures in the belt to the outer surface thereof to grip a card, sheet, &c. against the belt. Each gripper consists of a spring steel plate H riveted at K to the inner side of the belt C and formed of bowed shape with its free end projecting through an aperture c in the belt, and bent over to grip the work against the belt or against protecting-plates thereon. The work is fed automatically or by hand against the upstanding part, passing through the aperture c. Several grippers may be arranged side by side across the belt and several such sets may be equidistantly spaced along the belt. The belt drums D, D<1> are grooved for the passage of the grippers, which are opened to receive or deliver the work by fixed cams L or by parts of the drums. The belt is preferably perforated to engage driving - sprockets and permit passage of air &c. into the interior, which has a port N<1> in communication with a fan delivering to a separator and feed-hopper S; a tray may be provided to collect the bronze dust.
