Abstract

6682. Quain, J. R. March 18. Optical-projection apparatus. - Moving pictures of birds, aeroplanes, &c. are thrown on a target screen by a lantern v and a rotary or moving disk a, which may be combined with a transparent disk or member w, with a stationary or moving background picture thereon representing a seascape, landscape, &c. In the arrangement shown, the disk a is provided near the periphery with images of birds &c. and receives a rotary motion by means of a supporting-roller b' and gearing c, e, g, an up and down motion by a cam m driven by adjustable friction disks p, o<2>, and a sliding motion to and from the lantern by a crank-disk l<1> and slide l. The disk w is mounted between guide-pulleys w<3> and rotated by an endless cord. The disk a may be mounted on arms or a carrier and may have any other movement imparted to it. The lantern may be reciprocated, instead of the disk a, to give the illusion of the bird &c., moving to and away from the point of vision. The main driving-shaft is operated by a motor t and an electro-magnetic spring clutch r, r<1>, which is provided with a brake r<3>. The clutch may be thrown out of action, to stop the movement of the picture, by the bullet striking the target, or otherwise.
