Swivel looms; picking-motions.-In looms for weaving narrow fabrics, such as ribbons, tapes, and webbings, the shuttle A is provided with slots A', A<2>, the distance between which is longer than the shed B, and the shuttle carrier C has projecting pins C<1>, C<2> which engage in the slots A', A<2>. The carrier runs on a guide-race D, fitted to the underside of the lay and having a depression D' under the warp. It is moved from side to side by the rod G, pivoted to it and drawn downwards by the adjustable G<1>. The rod is actuated by cords K, K<1>, the ends of which are fixed to pulleys L, L<1> pivoted on brackets fixed to the sword M, and moved, either directly or through pulleys on the same shafts, by arrangements of cords, levers, and tappets from the low shaft P, which is rotated by spur gearing from the crank shaft Q. One set of tappets, levers, and cords may be replaced by a spiral or other spring. As the carrier C is moved across the loom, it sinks under the warp, and the projections C', C' are, in turn, released from the slots A<1>,A<2> to be re-engaged therein as the carrier rises on the other side of the warp. The loom may be arranged for several shuttles, each weaving a separate width of fabric.
