Abstract
25,010. Ward, A. Oct. 28. Straining liquids. -The lids of saucepans and other similar vessels are formed with an orifice b communicating with a chamber c formed by a perforated plate d in the lid. The opening b may be formed in any part of the lid, preferably as shown in the flange, by severing the metal at the edge and separating the two folds forming the flange. One of the folds of the flange may be corrugated to form the straining-orifice. The perforated division d may be a fixed plate, or be hinged at e and held in place by a catch g. The perforations in the plate d may be covered by a hinged flap h, which would allow the steam to escape, or, when the saucepan is tilted, the water &c. to be poured off. The handle of the lid may be arranged so that it may be grasped with the saucepan &c. handle by one hand, or the lid may be held in place by catches. The plate d may be dispensed with, and the cover formed simply with a straining- orifice.
