Abstract

187,667. Weekes, W. March 29, 1922. Heating by electricity. - An electric heating element comprises a hollow circular casing 1 provided with a ring groove 3 containing a resistance element 9, and a detachable cover 7, a hollow extension 6 integral with or secured to the outside of the casing being arranged normally to the groove and provided with means 12, 13 for securing it to the vessel 11 with which it is to be used. The element 9 consists of resistance wires wound on a piece of mica shaped to the groove and surrounded with further sheets of mica. Spiral or zig-zag fins may be attached to or formed on the casing 1, and the extension 6 or nut 13 may carry a switch plug or coupling. In a modification the casing has a disc flange iormed at the bottom and a flanged cap with a threaded groove is screwed on the casing at the top, the disc flange and the caps being perforated to facilitate circulation.
