Abstract

177,977. Southall, J. March 16, 1921. Reciprocating or oscillating batchmixers.-A concrete-mixer comprises a longitudinally corrugated drum A formed in segments and supported on rollers M mounted upon shafts by which the drum is rotated automatically in opposite directions. The shaft L is driven in opposite directions through bevel-wheels E, F and clutches G, H from a bevel-pinion D, the clutches being connected by a rod to the crank-pin K of a rotary ratchet-wheel J and adapted to move together along the shaft so that when one clutch is in gear the other is out of gear which its corresponding bevel-wheel. The concrete is fed into the drum at C and, after being passed to and fro along the drum by means of inclined shelves secured to the interior of the drum, is discharged at B by disengaging the pawl R from the ratchet-wheel so that the drum rotates continuously in one direction.
