Abstract
In a high-voltage switch with a case (1) filled with insulating gas, a fixed contact member (2) and a moving contact member (11) and with a fixed ring electrode (3) which surrounds the fixed contact member (2) and is connected to it via a coil (5), the susceptibility of the contact members (2, 11) to erosion by the switching arc is to be reduced and the quenching characteristic improved. This is achieved by the moving contact member (11) being constructed to be mushroom-shaped and exhibiting an insulating body (12) which operates in conjunction with a ring deflector (10) consisting of insulating material and connected form-locked to the case (1). This varies the flow cross section for the gas, heated by the switching arc and compressed, between the insulating body (12) and the deflector (10) in dependence on the degree of opening of the moving contact member (11) and results in a progressive increase in pressure of the gas with subsequent quenching of the switching arc and at the same time reduced wear of the contact members (2, 11). <IMAGE>
