Abstract

1537479 Prosthetic joint T G WADSWORTH 8 Dec 1976 [12 Dec 1975] 51118/75 Heading A5R A prosthetic elbow joint comprises an ulnar part I provided with a securing shank 1 and a head 3 in the form of a segment of an annulus with a centre A on the joint axis, the lateral surfaces of the segment being each provided with a rectangular groove 4 bounded by rectangular section projections, the projections 30 in use of the joint locating in cutouts 12 at the base of a groove H formed in a femeral part 10. The two parts slide relative to each other as the joint is flexed. The part 10 is semi-cylindrical with grooved keys 14, 16 which are cemented in reamed apertures in the humerus H. A further joint part 19 attached to the radius R has a head formed with a concave part-spherical surface which bears on a convex surface of the part 10. The parts 1 and 10 are made of cobalt chrome and part 9 of high density polyethylene.
