Abstract

1534509 Axial-flow pumps or fans GIRDLESTONE PUMPS Ltd 23 Dec 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 55481/74 Heading F1C An axial-flow pump or fan comprises an impeller 2 which produces flow of fluid in the axial direction with a circumferential component on to a backplate 4 having a helical ramp of opposite pitch to that of the impeller, the ramp ending in a shoulder 4a adjacent a radial outlet 3a and through which it directs the pumped fluid. A plurality of circumferentially spaced outlets may be provided, the backplate having a corresponding plurality of helical ramps. The backplate and impeller may be detached to permit substitution of different impellers and backplates.
