Abstract

1533720 Endless belt conveyers; threading webs S C ROONEY 16 Aug 1976 [18 Aug 1975 22 March 1976] 33981/76 Headings B8A and B8R [Also in Division D2] Apparatus for transferring a lead strip of paper web comprises a pervious endless belt 20, and a suction box 12 with openings in a surface 60 close to but spaced from one run of the belt and a baffle 80 defining a channel 84 through which air is forced in a direction contrary to the travel of the belt. One or more such apparatuses 50, 52, 54 may be used to transfer a lead strip 40 from one roller stand 42 to another 48, e.g. after a breakage of the web. Additional air jets (28), (92) (Figs. 1 and 9, not shown) may be used to further facilitate the release of the strip from the belt. The belt 20 may have perforations or it may be an endless cord or rope 64 running between two pulleys 66, 68 as shown in Fig. 6. The openings in the suction box may be of such size or distribution that a variation of suction is obtained along the belt (Fig. 5, not shown).
