Abstract
1526041 X-ray tubes EMI Ltd 29 Aug 1975 [29 Aug 1974] 37743/74 Heading H1D An X-ray tube for generating a planar fan of substantially uniform X-radiation comprises a target surface curved in the plane of the fan, which fan is substantially sideways to the general path of the electron beam, and the electrons being incident over the curved surface at substantially equal angles of incidence. Window 5 selects the required fan, and additional collimation and electrostatic focusing may be provided. The electron beam need not be circularly symmetrical but can be flat. The forward X-ray emission due to higher energy electrons may produce crossing X-ray beams in which case a fan-like array of collimators are used. The electron beam may be directed at an angle to the gun-target axis and converge with substantial positive aberration (bracket B) (Fig. 3, not shown). Beam convergence angles of 30 to 50 degrees are desirable for diagnostic radiology. Each beam is 30 degrees to the anode surface at the point of incidence. Proton input is mentioned.
