Abstract

1525100 Demand assignment communication INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 29 Dec 1975 [30 Dec 1974 (5) 26 June 1975] 52958/75 Heading H4M A plurality of networks, with corresponding control units 10 are coupled via network access control unit, concentrator, and mulitplexer 12, Fig. 4, which provides for assembly of a burst, demand assignable signal for communication (e.g. after modulation via a satellite). The communicated assembled signal is transmitted to all networks for demultiplexing, deconcentration and distribution, the burst duration being variable in dependence on network loading. In the presence of blocked demand, such demand is dispersed over all networks. In meeting demand data has priority over telephonic communication, continuing such communication having priority over transitional telephonic communication. The telephone channels utilize time assignment speech interpolation (TASI). Network control units, Fig. 3 (not shown).-The network control units, receiving baseband, or modulated, digital data, or, via PBX equipment (1.1) signals derived from telephones 1.1.1, function to pass the information in digital form via buffers to slot interchange memory (26), the information being communicated to other ports, or, in TASI format, to other networks or to the unit 12. The network control units, and the unit 12, see Fig. 4 (not shown) make use of microprocessors in their control. The various information and control formats used are disclosed in relation to Figs. 5-10 (not shown), as are the means for establishing and terminating signal paths, Figs. 12, 13A, 13B (not shown).
