Abstract

1511769 Mechanical switches STARKSTROM SCHALTGERATEFABRIKEN SPINDLERDEISSLER GmbH & CO KG 25 Oct 1976 44164/76 Heading H1N An electric switch comprises at least one switch unit 1, 2 attached to an indexing device 3 and containing electrical contacts 16, 19, 20 and a centrally disposed, rotatable operating member 22 which has a recess 15 on its periphery receiving a contact actuating element 14 whereby rotation of the operating member 22 forces the actuating element 14 out of the recess 15 to cause operation of the contacts 16, 19, 20. In one embodiment, each of two switch units 1, 2 is provided with two interlocked switch bodies 10 each housing a spring biased contact 16 which bridges a pair of fixed contacts 19, 20. Positioned within each pair of interlocked bodies 10 is a control barrel 11 housing bores 15 which accommodate balls 14 or pins (38a) Fig. 5 (not shown) in the closed position of the switch. When the control barrel 11 is rotated by rotating a spindle 22 by a handle 24 or a key, the balls 14 (or pins 38a) are forced out of the bores 15 to move the bridging contacts 16 away from the fixed contacts 19, 20. Mounted on the spindle 22 which is held in position by a spring clip 33, is an indexing device 3 comprising a cam wheel 30 which co-operates with spring biased balls 26 to provide indexed switch positions. The cam wheel 30 is also provided with an annular channel 34 accommodating a fixed projection 6a on an end plate 6 which engages, when the spindle 22 is rotated, stop blocks (35, 36) (Fig. 2, not shown) selectively positioned in the channel 34 so as to limit the movement of the spindle 22.
