Abstract

1511240 Couplings; valves HARPERWYMAN Ltd 11 Nov 1975 [14 Nov 1974] 49341/74 Headings F2U and F2V A coupling consists of first member 10, second member 12 and third member 15. Member 12 fits in member 10 which itself fits in member 15. Peg 13 engages in the slots 11 and 16. The oblique portion of slot 11 is at a different angle to the axis than slot 16. Thus if member 15 is held still and member 12 is rotated, member 10 is made to initially rotate at the same rate as member 12, then at a slower rate and then at the same rate. Fig. 2 shows the coupling used in a gas tap where a differential rate of rotating plug 23 is required. In a modification member 12 is not connected to a stem 14 but is driven by a sleeve having a slot in which projection 13 fits. This means that stem 14 is not moved axially when rotation occurs.
