Abstract

1508330 2 - Stilbenyl - 1,2,3 - triazoles CIBA-GEIGY AG 8 Sept 1975 [9 Sept 1974] 36884/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel 2-stilbenyl-1,2,3-triazoles of the formula wherein A is a benzene or naphthalene ring optionally substituted by at least one non- chromophoric group; R is (C 2 -C 4 )alkyl, (C 1 - C 4 ) haloalkyl, (C 2 -C 8 ) alkoxyalkyl, (C 1 -C 4 ) cyanoalkyl, (C 3 or C 4 ) alkenyl or phenoxy (C 1 - C 3 ) alkyl, and where A is a substituted benzene ring then R may also be hydrogen, methyl or a salt-forming cation, are prepared by esterifying the corresponding carboxylic acid with an alcohol. The novel compounds may be used as optical brightening agents for polymeric materials.
