Abstract

1495698 Building product REDLAND ROOF TILES Ltd 4 March 1975 [4 Dec 1973] 56195/73 Heading C3N A method of forming a coherent solid material suitable for use as or in a building product comprises mixing separated cerospheres defined as the material separated from fly ash or fuel ash with phosphoric acid as a binder and heating the mixture to a sufficiently high temperature for a sufficiently long period of time to cure the mixture to a coherent solid mass, the curing conditions being such as not to cause collapse of the cerospheres. The cerospheres may have a particle size of 50-200 microns and are preferably dried to a moisture content of less than 1% by weight before mixing with phosphoric acid. The binder is preferably orthophosphoric acid. The sequence of events used in one embodiment to make the coherent materials of the invention.
