Abstract

1484453 Invalids' chairs ALCESTER WELDING SERVICES Ltd and P B LUTTRELL 4 Nov 1974 [7 Aug 1973] 37313/73 Heading A4J [Also in Division B7] An invalid chair has a tray 6 with a seat 60 formed about a central opening, the seat having drainage channels 62. In a practical embodiment the chair has armrests which may be moved or detached from the chair to enable a patient to be moved sideways on to the seat or vice versa. As shown in the Figure armrests 3 have rear portions 30 which are pivotally received in a fixed tubular crosspiece 20 secured to the backrest 2. The arrangement permits either armrest 3 to be detached from the chair or swung clear to a rearward position indicated in dotted lines at 3'. The chair subframe 1 has rear wheels 4 which are castor mounted. A foot-rest 7 extends from a crossmember 8 carrying the front wheels 5, a brake to the latter being controlled from a foot pedal 9. A further transverse plastics tray 10 is mounted within the lower part of the subframe 10 to support a receptacle and may be tipped up when the chair is used under a shower or when wheeled over a toilet pan. The plastics seat tray 6 and tray 10 are made fire proof by suitable additives in the plastics material.
