1458370 Photographic multi-layer colour materials KODAK Ltd 25 Nov 1974 [23 Aug 1973] 40052/73 Heading G2C Photographic multi-layer colour material comprises a support bearing two or more silver halide emulsion layers sensitive to different regions of the spectrum, e.g. to blue and red or to blue, green and red, and in addition a panchromatically-sensitized silver halide emulsion layer so located as to be the first sensitive layer struck by the light to which the material is exposed, e.g. it is the sensitive layer furthest from the support or, in the case of exposure through the support, that nearest the support. Each emulsion layer may contain a colour coupler which forms a dye image absorbing in not more than one of three or more spectral regions e.g. which forms a magenta, cyan or yellow dye image, or the exposed material may be developed by developers containing couplers. Thus the material may contain the following layers (starting furthest from the support):- (a) a panchromatic emulsion layer containing a magenta-forming coupler, (b) a blue-sensitive layer containing a yellow-forming coupler, (c) a yellow filter layer and (d) a red-sensitive layer containing a cyanforming coupler. A green-sensitive layer (e) containing a magenta-forming coupler may be located between layers (c) and (d) in which case the absorptions of the magenta images formed from the couplers in layers (a) and (e) differ. The dye-image colours formed in each layer may or may not correspond to the sensitivities of the emulsion layers to give "true" sensitization as above, e.g. layer (a) could give a yellow image and layer (b) a magenta image. The colour images obtained on exposure and colour processing are read by scanning for television use and for making colour prints.
