1456901 Haemostatic fasteners and applicators T AKIYAMA 8 Jan 1974 [20 Jan 1973 (3)] 00761/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division E2] An instrument for closing a cut-end or an opening of a blood vessel between a pair of closing members each provided in strip form, comprises a pair of L-shaped members 39 40 pivotally supported at 41, 42 on the body of the instrument, feeding means for intermittently feeding the pair of closing member strips to the members 39, 40, and cutting means for cntting 'one pair of closing members from said pair of strips, the members 39, 40 being actuable to press and fasten together said one pair of closing members When a trigger 31, pivotally supported at 30 on the body and engaging an axle 73 projecting from a cylinder 72 in an oblong hole 74, is pulled, thereby pulling the cylinder 72 and a slidably received actuating shaft 69 therein backwards, an actuable element 71 rotates the members 39; 40 towards each other, the latter ripping strips 11, 12 together and cutting a pair of dosing members therefrom by a cutter 45. Simultaneously, projections 14 engaging cutout portions 13 are bent towards each other due .to a W-shaped recess 47 in the member 39 and thereby the members 39, 40 are fastened together with the blood vessel in between. Also, when the trigger is pulled, pins 59, 60 connected respectively to flexible rods 64, 65 move along grooves 61 provided in the outer casing 35 of the instrument and on releasing the trigger, the pins move forward over raised portions within the grooves the pins then engaging holes 15, 16 in the strips spaced apart by a distance equal to the length ('l 2 ') Fig. 1b (not shown) of the closing members and thus advancing the strips by this distance. The thickness width and length of the strips are preferably 0.1-0.3 mm, 5-10 mm, and 130-140 mm respectively, and the strips made of a plastic material The instrument could also be used with the pair of closing members already out before, hand
