Abstract
1452990 Cutting by laser beam G STUMPF 21 May 1974 [22 May 1973] 22762/74 Heading B4B A device for cutting sheet material comprises a first carriage 2 movable on a support means 1, a second carriage 4 movable on the first carriage, first and second optical deflection means 20, 30 mounted on the first and second carriages respectively, and a laser gun 9 fixed relative to the support, the arrangement being such that in operation of the device a laser beam 11 from the laser gun is deflected by the optical means 20 towards the optical means 30 for deflection thereby towards the sheet material. The carriage 2 is movable on rails 3 and driven by a motor 6, the carriage 4 being movable transversely on rails 5. The first optical deflection means 20 comprises a mirror 24, Fig. 2, mounted in a frame 23 which is pivoted about an axis (26), Fig. 3 (not shown), the frame (22) being pivoted about an axis 25 in a frame 21; the frame 21 is pivotally-mounted about a further axis 27 on a plate 12, Fig. 1, secured to the carriage 2. The frames 22, 23 are adjusted by screws 28, 29. The second optical deflection means comprises a mirror 36, Fig. 5, mounted in a plate 32 connected to a carrier plate 31 by three adjusting screws 34; the plate 31 is pivotally mounted on a plate 39 connected to a block 37. The beam is deflected by the mirror 36 through a bore 38 in the block to a focusing device 13. In a modification, a mirror (56) Fig. 6 (not shown) may be adjustably mounted via three screws (53), (54), (55) on an L-shaped bracket (51) which may be pivotally connected to the carriage plate 12, the latter arrangement replacing the optical device of Fig. 3 (not shown).
