Abstract
1450438 Data transmission; master and slave systems INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 19 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 58934/73 Heading H4P In a system where a plurality of remote stations work to a master station through channels having differing characteristics, address signals individually identifiable at the master station in the absence of equalization, cause appropriate adjustment of a compensating equalizing means. The address signals may be of differing frequency or phase. At the master station receiver, incoming signals pass through A.G.C. 7<SP>1</SP> to equalizer 8<SP>1</SP> whose coefficients are adjusted by memory 17 in correspondence with each received address, and then passed to phase discriminator 9<SP>1</SP>, also receiving a signal from clock recovery circuit 10<SP>1</SP> (active only during sync. periods) feeding a decoding circuit 12<SP>1</SP>; output from this may be passed direct through a multiple address decoder 15<SP>1</SP> or data descrambler 14<SP>1</SP> according to the position of switch 13<SP>1</SP>. Where 8 phase transmission, i.e. 3 bit groups is used, one phase # is reserved for sync. purposes. Alternatively a series of 1's in clear or scrambled may be used. Coefficients loaded into memory 17 are obtained by test procedures. The equalizer may be of auto transversal type, adaptive or non-adaptive and transmission by VSB or SSB is envisaged in the Specification.
