Abstract

1444424 Change-speed control NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 17 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 1972] 48411/73 Heading F2D Output speed responsive governor pressure 18, acting on a shift valve 10 in opposition to throttle-variable pressure 14 to produce automatic ratio shift in a vehicle transmission, is supplied to the shift valve through a modulator 20 to provide a means for varying the shift pattern. In Fig. 1 the modulator 20 regulates line pressure 26 to the shift valve at 28 under the downward load of delivery pressure 28 acting on differential lands A1, A2, and upward load of governor pressure 18 supplied through a restrictor 34a, and a spring 46, the compression of which can be varied through a cable 54 by a manual control 56, or automatically in response to road gradient or engine temperature. In Fig. 2, not shown, the modulator valve port 32 (exhaust in Fig. 1) communicates with the governor valve input line 18 and the valve spool is biased downwards by a spring and upwards by governor pressure 18 in the lower chamber which now has a restricted exhaust closed by the plunger (60a) of a solenoid, energization of which opens the exhaust to produce a reduced governor pressure supply to the shift valve, thus providing two different shift patterns. A third shift pattern may be produced by an additional modulator valve, and a throttle pressure modulator valve may also be provided.
