1444385 Bending tubes R P MINGORI 11 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 57249/73 Heading B3E Tube bending apparatus for producing two bends of opposed senses comprises a first abutment 14 movable between two further abutments 16, 18, on the far side of one of which is a roll 38 restraining movement of the tube, the further abutment 18 remote from the roll being movable parallel to the direction of movement of the first abutment. As shown a support 20 has sides with pairs of aligned holes 36 (one of each pair shown). The first abutment 14 has a groove 22 of width and curvature to fit the bent tube, and is mounted on the rod 26 of a ram 28 secured to support 28 by arch 30. Abutment 16 has a groove 32 of width and curvature to fit the bent tube, and is mounted in a selected pair of holes 36 by shaft 34. Roll 38 having groove 40 is mounted in a stirrup 42. A pin 48 extends through slots 46 in the stirrup and a selected pair of holes 36, and is adjustably connected by screw 50 to the base 60 of the stirrup, so that the roll can pivot about the pin, and is adjustable in height relative to abutment 16 in accordance with tube diameter. The abutment 18 has a plane face 80, and is slidable by tracks and guides (not shown) in the arms 66 of stirrup 64, so as to be adjustable by screw 70 in accordance with the desired offset d, which is indicated before bending by abutting scale 82 against the tube when in position 86, and reading the scale against a datum 90. The stirrup is mounted in a selected pair of holes 36 by spigots 68. During the first part of the bending operation, the tube is bent about abutment 16 until it contacts abutment 18, whereafter bending occurs about abutment 14, and further bending about abutment 16.
