Abstract

1438850 Rotary positive-displacement machines AUTOMOBILES CITROEN S A 1 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 45856/73 Heading F1F An apex sealing device for the rotor of a trochoidal-type rotary internal combustion engine comprises a central sealing bar 5, and angular sealing segments 6 which sealingly engage respective ends of bar 5 by means of oblique surfaces 5a, 6a and which have lateral projections 12 integral therewith which provide axially outwardly facing stop surfaces 14 which engage inwardly facing surface 13 of sealing drums 8, so that the radially outward force provided by spring 11 causes axially outward biassing of the angular segments 6 due to the oblique surfaces and thus of the drums 8 due to the abutting stop surfaces 13, 14. The projections may be rectangular in transverse crosssection Fig. 4 (not shown) rather than triangular, or the drums may have radial slots with radially inwardly facing bottom surfaces which are engaged by outwardly facing support surfaces of the angular segments Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
