Abstract

1437721 Two-part couplings; connectors CANNON ELECTRIC (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd 13 June 1974 [21 June 1973] 29501/73 Heading H2E A flat-cable termination comprises a U-shape metal member with barbs in one or both of its limbs which, in use, is crimped about a flat cable so that the barbs pierce the insulation to connect with a cable conductor, there being a pin or socket contact integral with the U- member. Fig. 3 shows a plurality of terminations with the contacts of alternate terminations above and below the plane of the cable and the U-members at the edge of the cable of different form. The terminations were originally joined together side-by-side in a strip which was crimped to the cable, material was then piercedout between the individual terminations; alternatively they can be crimped singly to the cable. A plastics housing with holes to receive and tongues and barriers to separate the terminations is shown. A Z-shape connector crimped about the ends of two flat cables is described but is not claimed (Figs. 1, 2).
