Abstract

1428604 Two part coupling AMP Inc 5 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 05159/74 Heading H2E A female electrical contact of flat-bottomed channel shape has a contact arm 22 joined to the rear of a side wall and extending forwards of this point over the flat bottom with a helper spring 46 attached to the other side wall touching the contact arm at an edge (48, Fig. 2, not shown). As shown the helper spring 46 extends rearwards being attached to the front of the other wall; in another embodiment Fig. 5, the helper spring 46<SP>1</SP> extends forwards being attached to the rear of the other wall generally opposite the line of attachment of the contact arm 22<SP>1</SP>. A stop 64 is attached to the front of the side wall to limit the maximum deflection of the contact arm 22<SP>1</SP>. The contact arm may span the channel resting on part 36 of the other side wall in a level region of the arm, and may again touch the other wall at a lower level 38 at an inwardly slanted part of the contact arm. The end of the contact arm may be bent upwards (Fig. 2, not shown) to ease entry of the male contact. The bottom may have an inward protuberance 44 to co-operate with the bent end of the contact arm to form a throat. Part of the side wall (62, Fig. 2, not shown) may be bent outwards to lock the contact into a housing (not shown).
