Abstract
1427694 Frequency detection SHARETREE Ltd 29 April 1974 18760/74 Heading H3A [Also in Division G1] Positive going zero-crossovers of an applied sinewave A, Fig. 3c, are detected 23, applied to a switching circuit 26, 29, 30 which produces a rectangular pulse train extending from - 5 v. to +5 v. and having a constant "mark" of 10-2 ms. (=half the cycle time of a 49 c./s. wave) and a "space" which varies linear with the frequency of the applied sinewave A (the duration of the space being 10À2 ms. when the applied sinewave has a frequency of 49 c./s. and zero when it is 98 c./s.), and the mark/space significant rectangular pulse train is averaged 32 to give an output voltage which varies about zero as the input frequency varies about 49 c./s. Each positive going zero-crossover in the input sinewave A momentarily turns on a transistor 26 to discharge a capacitor 27 which then charges towards - 5 v. via a resistor 28 adjusted so that the bottom plate of the capacitor 27 reaches Ov after 10À2 ms. Thus, the circuit 29, 30, 31 produces a +5 v. "mark" of a fixed duration of 10À2 ms. and a space of - 5 v. which extends until the next positive going zero-crossover occurs.
