Abstract

1426686 Carpet sweepers PRESTIGE GROUP Ltd 4 Dec 1974 [4 March 1974] 9607/74 Heading A4F In a carpet sweeper having a casing, and a manually rotatable sweeper brush, electrically operated dust collecting means are provided at one or more points adjacent the periphery of the casing which are energized by a battery carried by the sweeper. The rear wheels 4 of the illustrated sweeper drive a rotary brush 2 Fig. 2 (not shown) which sweeps dirt into dust pans (7). The electrically operated dust collecting means comprise impellers 13 located at each of the front corners of the machine and each rotatable by an electric motor 17 to draw dust through a duct 14 into a dust pan (7). An annular brush 21 surrounds each duct inlet. The motors 17 are energized via two switches 19 by a battery within the sweeper casing 1, either motor being energized when required, e.g. for removing dust from a corner. Alternative embodiments have a single impeller 32 Fig. 3 (not shown) or two impellers for drawing dust through a duct (31) or two ducts extending across the front and/or rear of the sweeper casing. Impellers may be provided additionally or alternatively for drawing dust through ducts at the sides of the casing. In all the above embodiments the impellers may deliver the dust to small disposable dust bags instead of to the dust pans. In a further embodiment the electrically operated dust collecting means includes a rotary brush which may be provided in addition to a suction means.
