Abstract

1424912 Automatic circuit breakers; electromagnetic switches MERLIN GERIN 19 Sept 1973 [28 Sept 1972] 44047/73 Heading H1N [Also in Division H2] A circuit-breaker which may be tripped to be opened by springs 174 when a coil 60 is energized to move a toggle linkage 168 over-centre has a stationary magnetic part which, due to excess current in conductors 148, 150 and contact bridge 140, can attract an armature 154 which after some lost motion causes a drive plate 158 to engage the ends 164 of pins 162 on the contact bridge 140 and open the contacts which are held open until the current falls. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) the armature is normally held away from the stationary magnetic part by a permanent magnet. The armature may be moved by induction.
