Cup-leather joints; ball. and-socket joints.-A cup. leather or annular gasket joint, particularly for brake. pipes, is sealed by pressure of the fluid in the pipe admitted to a groove or recess at the back of the gasket in such manner as not to act on the edges of the gasket In the ball-and-socket joint shown in Fig. 2, the fluid is admitted by ports 12 to the recess 11 at the back of the gasket 7, which is attached to the socket 6 by means of a flange or rib 9 held by the screw ring 10. The edges of the gasket are shielded as shown from the action of the fluid.
