Abstract

1416145 Detecting shock waves in liquid EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COM. MUNITY 11 Oct 1972 [15 Oct 1971] 46957/72 Heading H4D The occurrence of cavitation in a liquid due to boiling or turbulence is detected by a plurality of pressure change detectors which are spaced apart in the liquid and which detect the shock waves which result from collapse of cavitation bubbles. The detectors may respond to different frequency ranges so that together they cover the whole frequency range of expected shock waves. Detectors may be immersed in the liquid coolant of a nuclear reactor, and it is stated that the point of origin of shock waves, even if remote from the detectors, may be ascertained.
