Abstract
1412341 Metallizing paste UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 24 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 4456/73 Heading C1M [Also in Division C7] A metallizing paste consists of powdered alumium or alumium alloy such as Al/Mu or Al/Mg, a powdered glaze such as lead benobelleate, in a weight range 90 Al 10 glaze to 65 Al 35 glaze and 5-15% by weight of a decomposable nickel-based organometallic compound, such as Ni resinate mixed with a heatvapourizable liquid such as a polymerized cyclic ketone in terpineol. Adherent electrically- and thermally-conducting elements may be formed on ceramic surfaces such as alumina, beryllea or microcircuit glasses by screen printing a replica of the element in the paste on the ceramic substrate, drying at 100-200‹ C. and firing in air at 800-1200‹ C., preferably 900-1000‹ C. for 10-60 minutes to fuse the whole replica and wet the substrate. To form joints for lead attachment, the elements are overplated with electrodes nickel or screen print coated with Ag or Ag/Pd alloy, and the presence of the resinate powder in the paste is said to reduce the overplating time from 90 minutes to 60 minutes per thou deposit and improves the conductor/substrate bond strength and reproducibility.
