Abstract

1405174 Vehicle load indicator R W JONES and A J CALDICOTT 15 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 12007/72 Heading G1W A vehicle load indicator comprises a space whose volume varies with the vehicle body-axle separation the space being connected by a conduit 19 to a vertical indicating tube 20 via a restrictor 23, and the space, conduit and tube containing an indicating liquid. The cylinder 10 is connected to the vehicle body at bush 11, and the piston rod 13 is connected to an axle via a spring 14. A spring 17 biases the piston into the cylinder. Restrictor 23 allows free flow of liquid from tube 20 into conduit 19 but restricts flow in the opposite direction. The zero of the liquid column in tube 20 is set by a variable volume chamber 24. The piston and cylinder may be replaced by a compressible capsule or a housing with a diaphragm. A plurality of indicators may be mounted on a vehicle.
