Abstract

1403570 Lubricants SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 3 Aug 1972 [5 Aug 1971 (2)] 36301/72 Heading C5F [Also in Division C2] A grease composition comprises an oleaginous base oil and a proportion sufficient to thicken the base oil to grease consistency of a dibenzimidazole derivative of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are (C 6 -C 30 ) hydrocarbyl radicals or are radicals of the formula and R 7 ÀXÀCONHR 5 -, wherein R 6 and R 7 are <SP>(C</SP>6<SP>-C</SP>30<SP>)</SP> aliphatic hydrocarbyl radicals, R 4 and R 5 are (C 6 -C 20 ) aromatic hydrocarbylene radicals, and X is -O- or -NH-, and R 3 is a (C 2 -C 20 ) hydrocarbylene radical. A wide variety of lubricating oils may be employed as the base vehicle and the greases may also contain additives such as anti-corrosion additives, oxidation inhibitors, viscosity index improvers and extreme pressure agents.
