Abstract

1403377 Ignition systems SVENSKA ELEKTROMAGNETER AB 5 July 1972 [5 July 1971] 31545/72 Heading F1B Ignition apparatus comprises an alternating current generator 1, 2, a capacitor 19, a first diode 5 connected to the output of the generator and in series with the capacitor for applying charging current to the capacitor during positive voltage half cycles, a second diode 6 connected in a circuit across the output of the generator to pass current during negative voltage half cycles, an ignition coil 23 having a primary winding 21 connected to receive discharge current from the capacitor and a secondary winding 22 for connection to one or more sparking plugs 27 and switch means 9 for controlling charge and discharge of the capacitor, the switch means being effective to switch to a condition suitable for charging the capacitor at or immediately after a negative half cycle voltage peak from the generator. In a modification (not shown) the switch 9 is replaced by a thyristor controlled by pulses from a trigger coil. The sparking plug 27 is of surface discharge type. The electronic circuit and component parts thereof may be cast into a block of thermo-setting resin. It is stated that the terms positive and negative, as used, are interchangeable.
