1401801 Shelving T P C DARBY 26 April 1973 [27 Jan 1972] 3792/72 Heading A4B [Also in Divisions A6 and B8] A construction kit consisting of a number of flat plates which can be releasably connected to each other in various arrangements and used as a toy, or for the construction of shelving, display stands and containers, has at least some of the plates provided with lugs 10 and at least some of the plates provided with slots 11, so that the lugs can be passed through the slots to connect plates to each other at right angles, at least some of the lugs having an aperture for a wooden locking pin or wedge 13, Fig.10, inserted after the lug has been passed through a slot 11. The various plates are of modular construction, viz. are dimensioned to relate to a common basic square. Additional holes 12, Figs. 3, 7, 9, may be provided. The plate of Fig.9 has slots 11 but no lugs 10, and is used to form the top or bottom of a set of plates when assembled. Each plate may be in two parts, Fig.7, divided along a line parallel to one edge, or divided along a diagonal, Fig.8 (not shown). Each lug 10 may be of such a length as to receive one plate 14, as shown in Fig.10, or may be of greater length to receive two plates (14, 16), Fig.11 (not shown), before a wedge 13 is inserted through its aperture. The plates may be of five-ply plywood, 19-20 inches long along their sides, or of plastics and 2 inches long along their sides, or may be printed and/or stamped on the sides of packets, e.g. for cereals. Additionally curved sheets, rods, bars, tubes, &c. may be included with the kit.
