Abstract

1401197 Lifting apparatus; lifts R VOGEL 30 June 1972 [22 July 1971] 30634/72 Headings B8B and B8L [Also in Division D1] Lifting apparatus comprises a load, e.g. a lift cage 2, supported by at least one thin, flexible. spring steel strap 1 passed around and driven by a drive pulley 4 connected to drive means 6. The strap(s) may be longitudinally pre-curved, and given a transverse curvature by a convex surface on the pulley 4, which has a friction layer 5. The pulley and its driving gear may be mounted on the top of the lift cage (Fig. 3). In a further embodiment, the pulley 4 is mounted at the bottom of a lift shaft, the cage 2 and a counterweight 3 being supported from below by a strap 21. The cage 2 and the counterweight 3, in this embodiment, have rollers 31 guided by rails 30 secured to a post 27 in the lift shaft. The strap 21 is guided in sliding guides 33 carried by adjustable resilient carriers 35 on the post 27, with the edges of the strap 21 guided by rollers 32. The end of a strap is fixed to a cage by clamping between a wedge 41 and a housing 49 carried by the cage, a pin 51 being passed through the strap to prevent slip.
