Abstract

1399384 Collapsible tables ING C OLIVETTI & C SPA 1 Sept 1972 [6 Sept 1971] 40750/72 Heading A4H A collapsible table comprises a working surface 1 supported by a pair of end panels 2 releasably connected thereto and a crosspiece 3 bracing the surface 1 and having two uprights 37 rigid with its ends and extending slidably within the panels 2 which have cut-outs 36 accommodating the ends of the crosspiece 3. During assembly, the surface 1 is inverted and the crosspiece 3 with its uprights 37 welded to its ends is rested on the surface 1. Each panel 2, which comprises a pair of sheet metal walls 7, 8 welded together, is placed over an upright 37, the upright 37 passing through a slot 35 in a flange 16 of wall 8 and an aperture 46 in a section 44 welded to wall 8, a pin 39 of upright 37 engaging in a hole 43 in a foot member 28 welded to panel 2. The parts are secured by screws 53 inserted through holes 31, 30, 32, 33 in plates 21 welded to flanges 16, bent lugs 17 of wall 8 and surface 1. Walls 7, 8 have bent edge portions 12, 13, 11, portions 13 being welded to wall 8 to define grooves 14, flanges 15, 16 welded together, and lugs 26 inserted in slots 27 in foot member 28. The table may include drawers, containers, or auxiliary working surfaces connected thereto by screws threaded into holes 54 in crosspiece 3, in walls 7, and in uprights 37. Surface 1 comprises sheet-metal walls 4, 5 separated by a filler 6.
