Abstract
1397935 Testing oil from o.f. cables FUJIKURA CABLE WORKS Ltd 23 June 1972 [28 June 1971 #5 ] 29473/72 Heading G1B Gases dissolved in insulating oil from oil-filled (o.f.) cables are quantitatively analyzed to detect abnormalities in the oil by a method comprising sampling oil from an o.f. cable 10 already laid, without exposing the oil to the air, collecting in the space above the oil in thermostatted receptacle .21 (Fig. 2) the gases evolved from the oil at a vacuum of less than 10<SP>-2</SP> mm Hg and quantitatively analyzing the collected gases, for example by collecting a sample of the gases in sampler 17 and analyzing the sample by gas chromatography. The oil may be sampled using the device of Fig. 1 with a syringe without its needle connected at 14, sampling tube 11 preferably having an oil shut-off valve (not shown). The sample may then be allowed to flow from the syringe into evacuated receptacle 21.
