Cutting girders and profile bars; shearing ; punching.-In a combined shearing, section-cutting and punching machine, the frame is constructed with recesses 22<1>, 25, 32, Fig. 4, for the tool-slides 22, 26, 33 on one side, and operating- gear for the slides on the other. The frame comprises a flanged casting 10 with front and back plates 12, 11, the former having openings over the recesses 22<1>, 25, 32, in which are fitted cover-plates 24, 31, 35 having bearings 48 for the operating-shafts 45, 46, 47. These shafts are driven through clutches 82<1>, which are operated through link-work 87, 100, Fig. 2, by treadles 95, 96, 97, Fig. 1, or handlevers 102 through shafts 92, 81, 82, Figs. 2 and 4, and gearing 91, 90, 79, 80, 76 from a shaft 56 carrying a pinion 75 and a belt pulley 51, Fig. 1, the belt-shifting fork 105 being operated by a handle and bar 106. The shaft 45 operating the punch slide 22 may, when unclutched, be turned by a hand-wheel 108, and the shafts 46, 47 operating the section-cutter 28 and bar-cutter 36, shear blade 37, and notching-cutter 41 respectively have disks 109, 110 with holes for a tommy-bar. The bolster which coacts with the cutter 41 is supported by extensions 43 of the plates 35, 44. The necessary devices for holding the work are provided. The bearings 63, 67, 64, &c. for the shafts 92, 69, 81, 70, 56, 82 are canied by brackets 62, and the weight of this gearing &c. is supported by a flanged foot 14.
