Abstract

1397426 Automatic temperature control M BEHR [trading as SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK JULIUS FR BEHR] 12 May 1972 [28 May 1971] 22398/72 Heading G3R A device for maintaining constant the temperature of a space comprises a temperature sensor emitting a signal to an electronic switch which controls means for regulating the pressure of a vacuum motor connected to heat supply means for the space, the vacuum motor being operated through means which convert discontinuous changes in pressure produced by the switch into continuous changes. As applied to a vehicle 4, Fig.1, a series chain of temperature responsive resistors 10, 11, 3 measure the temperature of the outside air, engine cooling air and vehicle interior; a variable resistor 2 sets the desired interior temperature; and the electronic switch controls vacuum motor 8 via a throttle 12. The motor 8 controls a member 13 which (a) regulates the heat supply, and (b) a feedback resistor 7. The chain may form one branch 14, Fig.3, of a bridge circuit 14, 19, 20, 21, having across its balancing diagonal, a transistor circuit 22-27, measuring the difference between resistor 14 and a fixed resistor 19 to actuate, if this difference exceeds a pre-set value, either relay 17 or 18 via relay 28 or 29 according to the sign of the error. Relays 18, 19 control electromagnetic valves to progressively adjust the pressure applied to the vacuum motor 8. The relays may be replaced by transistors, and the chain of resistors replaced by a single NTC resistor measuring the vehicle interior temperature.
