Abstract

1392767 Intruder alarms GULF & WESTERN MFG CO (SYSTEMS) 7 Nov 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 51231/72 Heading G4N An ultrasonic intruder detection system comprises a transmitter 10 and a receiver 14 for establishing a standing wave pattern, detector 20 for detecting a doppler signal representing motion within the protected area, first and second frequency responsive circuits 25, 26 each including integrating circuits and coupled to the detector 20 for producing frequency dependent threshold and detection signals respectively, a difference circuit 27 responsive to the detection signal exceeding the threshold signal for actuating alarm circuitry 30, 33. In the event of an intrusion, a capacitor in the alarm circuitry including an accumulator 33 and an AND gate 32 charges up and an alarm is given after a first predetermined period. The system also includes a third frequency responsive circuit 28 which passes any high frequency background or jamming signals having more than 50% duty ratio and the capacitor charges up slowly via line 31B and if the high frequency signal persists after a second predetermined period, an alarm is given. The circuit 25 is a notch filter sensitive to disturbance signals on either side of the intrusion band while the circuit 26 is a band-pass filter having a high gain over the intrusion band so that spurious signals are discriminated against and movement due to an intruder alone actuates the alarm. Fig. 2 (not shown), is a detailed circuit of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 (not shown), relates to an alternative embodiment in which a receiver transducer tuned approximately to the carrier frequency is used in place of the circuit 28 for detection of noise components near the carrier frequency.
