Abstract
1390152 Extruded flat cable PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 29194/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division H1] In a method of manufacturing a flat cable a thin-walled thermoplastics tube 7 is extruded over coplanar and parallel insulated conductors 4 and the assembly is passed through rollers 8, 9 profiled to form links 12, Fig. 4, between the conductors, these links having a thickness less than the corresponding tube insulation 17 round the conductors. During extrusion gases are drawn off through ducts 5, 6 in the mandrel 2 to shrink the tube on to the conductors. The rollers may be heated. The conductors may be of different sizes and spacing, and the inner insulation 11 may be of differing colours under a transparent outer insulation 17. Polyethylene, P.V.C., polyamides, P.T.F.E. and fluoroethylene propylene copolymer are disclosed as suitable for the inner and/or outer insulations.
