Abstract

1389943 Cutting web material HAUNIWERKE KÍRBER & CO KG 2 June 1972 [2 June 1971] 25916/72 Heading B4B A device for cutting web material comprises an intermittently-driven drum 7 for feeding and holding the web materials, a cutter blade 11 mounted within the drum and arranged to be projected outwardly through an opening 8 in the periphery of the drum for co-operation with a counter cutter 16 so as to sever the web during a stationary period of the drum. The web 3 is drawn from a supply reel 4 by rollers 1, 2, then around the drum 7 and a take-off drum 17; the drums 7, 17 are provided with suction ports in their peripheries so as to hold the portions of web after they have been severed. The cutting blade 11 is moved into cutting engagement with the blade 16 by means of a rotatable cam 13, the cutting edges of the blades being inclined to one another in order to provide a shear cut; alternatively the cam 13 may be replaced by a solenoid (124), Fig. 2 (not shown). The counter cutter blade 16 is mounted for adjustment by means of screws 22. In the construction shown in Figs 3 and 4, the drum 207 is supported at one one end only and the cutting blade 211 only passing into the open end of the drum. The blade is mounted on a support bracket 226, 228 pivotally connected to an arm 229 via a bearing 231; the blades are maintained in contact during cutting by means of a spring 233. The cutting movement is effected by a spring 237 under the control of a cam 213.
